Two tools to use today — without booking anything yet

The first measures the cost with your own life, not with your distress. The second designs the minimal step you can take today: a concrete piece of information, not an appointment. Neither replaces a professional. Both are free and used right here.

This is not a diagnosis. What follows is information and practical tools. If the distress is affecting your relationships, your work or your sleep, or thoughts appear that nothing matters or of harming yourself, there are help lines below, available 24/7. That is addressed today, not tomorrow.
Tool 1 · clinical base

The list of what I dropped

Tick what stopped happening in the last year without you deciding it. This is not a validated clinical scale: it is an inventory that answers "is it serious?" better than any argument, because your own life answers it.

Tick everything that stopped happening in the last year without you deciding it:

Why this works this way: The criterion for seeking help is not the intensity of the distress but the time and the cost. Clement and colleagues (2014) found that the number one barrier to seeking help is the belief that the problem is not "enough". When the criterion shifts from "is it serious?" to "what do I no longer do?", that barrier falls on its own.

Tool 2 · today's practice

Designer for your first step

Choose what is hardest for you and when in the day you will take a minimal step — a concrete piece of information, not an appointment. It gives you back a short five-step script you can do today, without booking anything.

Why this works this way: Putting it off is beaten by lowering the size of the gesture, not by raising willpower. The useful first step is not "book therapy": it is finding one concrete piece of information (price, hours, online care). Bourke and colleagues (2021) showed that the quality of the bond with the therapist predicts much of the outcome, which is why the first person is a test, not a final decision.

The tools help you start. If you have already decided, there is also a door with support:
