Two things you can do today

The first one gives you a profile across the five traits, with a reading for each factor. The second turns a label about yourself into a concrete behavior you can watch and change. Neither of them assigns you a type.

1 · The five-trait meter

No type, no four letters. Mark what you recognise from the last month and it returns five bars with a reading for each factor. If two come out high, the reading tells you what happens when they combine.

Mark how much each sentence describes you, over the last month.

Openness

New things pull at me: complexity, ideas with no practical use.

Conscientiousness

I hold on to what I start and I close what I set out to do.

Extraversion

People energise me and I speak before I am asked.

Agreeableness

I give in before arguing, and saying no is hard for me.

Neuroticism

I am set off quickly and coming back to calm takes me a while.

Scale 0 (not at all) to 4 (almost always). It is a guide for looking at the cost, not a clinical instrument or a validated test.

2 · Label the behavior, not the person

Take a sentence you say about yourself and turn it into a fact with a date, a place and a behavior. Do it now, in six steps. What sat in your identity moves into a situation, and a situation can be worked on.
