Two things you can do today
The first shows the shape your loops take when you are not thinking about them, with no judgment. The second gives you a short script to give the issue a place with a set time, which is the smallest move that already changes the night.
1 · The loop reader
It does not measure how much you think: it looks at the shape your thinking takes. Check what you recognize from the last month and the reader tells you which family runs the show today.
Turning on yourself
The loops are not about the fact but about you: why am I like this, what flaw of mine caused it. This version weighs more and moves less, because the issue you are replaying is your own identity, and you do not get out of that by replaying it.
Anticipating
Your head is working on things that have not happened yet, and nothing can close there: the future is open, so the loop never ends. Rehearsing does not keep it from happening, it only tires you out before it does.
Replaying what already happened
You go back to the same memory even though you have thought it through many times, and each pass changes nothing about what happened. You can spot it because there is no next step, only the same scene again. Here it helps to give the issue an hour.
Seeing it differently
When everything reads in the first version only, anything weighs like something final. Looking for another honest reading is not fooling yourself: it is admitting that the fact and what it means are not the same thing. It is the family that lowers intensity fastest.
Closing and acting
Until there is a next step, the issue keeps taking up room. Closing is almost never a brilliant conclusion: it is a small, concrete decision, or accepting that there is nothing to do today and writing it down.
The list is heavily checked and that is already touching your rest, your work or your relationships. It is not a lack of willpower: it is a way of thinking that has become a regime. If lasting hopelessness or thoughts of hurting yourself show up, the lines are below, available all day.

2 · The hour for the issue
A five-step script to give the issue a place with a set time, instead of letting it run all day. Do it today and it takes two minutes.
The script, if you prefer to do it by hand
- Pick the hour. A specific hour today or tomorrow to think about that issue. With a clock: "today 7:30 pm". Not "when I can".
- When it shows up before the hour, do not follow it. Tell it "at 7:30" and go back to what you were doing. Do not argue with it or analyze it: that is already going over it under another name.
- At the hour, sit for fifteen minutes. Phone far away, for real. Not before and not after the hour you set.
- Close with one line. What question is still open or what the next step is. That is exactly what the loop never gives you.
- If there is no step and no question, write that. "There is nothing to do about this yet." That is a conclusion too, and it also closes the day's turn.
Why it works. It does not switch the thinking off: it changes its job. The loop holds because it seems urgent all day; when it has an assigned hour it stops being urgent and becomes a task. And a task, unlike a rumination, can be finished.
